Chicago’s Belmont Cragin community is creating its first Quality-of-Life Plan! Your voice matters – get involved today by attending an upcoming meeting, or post ideas for things you want to make happen and photos of things you love about Belmont Cragin via the ‘Share an Idea’ tool.
“Quality-of-life planning” brings together local residents, schools, churches, businesses, service organizations, and other community stakeholders to create a long-term vision for the neighborhood, building on the specific strengths of that community. We, as members of this community, use the plan together to make our joint vision clear and adopt strategies and projects that agree will bring it to life. This is not just a one-time meeting – we will keep working together to complete our vision over the coming years, using the plan to recruit investors, inform government agencies and invite them in to be part of the process.
We’re not doing this alone. Northwest Side Housing Center (NWSHC) is convening the planning process, reaching out for introductions and conversations, and hosting meetings large and small to encourage all residents, businesses, and stakeholders to become involved in the project. The process is being supported by LISC Chicago based on the New Communities Program (NCP) that launched quality-of-life planning in 16 neighborhoods and leveraged more than $600 million as they were implemented, and facilitated by Teska Associates, Inc., an urban planning firm which has worked with LISC in a number of other Chicago neighborhoods.
But the important part is you. Add your ideas/reactions to what’s happening on this website, or even better, join us! The following organizations are committed to serve on the Quality-of-Life Plan task force or one of its issue groups:
